Northwest Washington disasters

Well, the power is back on and life is returning to normal. Drivers are preoccupied with evereything but paying attention to driving. You know the driver I'm talking about. They slow at the light then turn right without signalling or even stopping. They push through the yellow lights ( as they change to red). They do "tough and go" stops to turn on the red. If they stop at all it's after the crosswalk...
Now just 10 days ago most of these same drivers were so careful to come to a complete stop at the darkened signal. They looked and waited patiently for other drivers and even smiled!
So now you're asking yourself, what does this have to do with disasters?

Well, what is a disaster? Earthquake? Sure. Flood? If it's your house or business, of course. What about a traffis accident? If you are involved it sure is. So, my point? Well disasters come in all sizes and preparing for one is not just assembling supplies and checking your cache occasionally, it is also changing your thought process and lifestyle (a little). You need to be aware of your suroundings and think ahead. In driving they used to call it "Defensive Driving".
Changing isn't rocket science, but if you want to survive the next disaster, the time to change is now. Think the improbable if you want (the invasion, the black helo's etc), but prepare for the next event. It could be a power outage, a water main break, a gas leak, a heavy snowstorm ar even an earthquake.
In the next post I'll talk about our expirence living without heat and little power for 7 days while our local power company worked to bring us all back into the 21st century!
